Geomorphology

Geomorphology General marker type*
The type of marker, from a drop-down list.
Deatailed marker description*
The detailed description of the marker. If not in the list, select "Other" and specify the marker details in the "notes on marker" section.
Position of palaeoSL marker in relation to paleotide level
Specify the position of the paleo sea level in relation to the paleo tide level (if applicable).
Type of indicator*
Select the type of indicator from a drop down list.
Marker preservation*
Select the state of conservation of the marker from a drop down list.
Estimated position of SL marker with respect to  SL* Insert the estimated position of the marker with respect to sea level. If the marker indicates tidal level, then insert "0" . If the marker is indicative of a range (i.e. MLLW to MHHW) then insert here the mean elevation between the two, and associated uncertainty in the cell below. If the marker indicates a submarine environment (e.g. a submerged beach facies) indicate its depth e.g. "-8"
Uncertainty in indicating SL* Uncertainty associated to the previous measure
Position in stratigraphic sequence Stratigraphic order among data points from a single site
Notes on marker Insert here notes to specify the content of the cells above, if necessary
----Other (specify)---- Geomorphological description A combination of information calculated from the cells above

Elevation

Elevation Method/Equipment used to measure elevation Describe the equipment  used to measure elevations in the field
Marker elevation corrected to MTL for the locality* Insert here the marker elevation measured in the field. The marker elevation must be referred to a tidal datum during measurement. Then it must be referred to MTL before insertion.
Estimated measurement error* State the vertical accuracy of your measure, dependig chiefly on the instrument used  and on the measuring conditions.
Elevation datum used
Choose from a drop down list the elevation datum used for water level reference at the time of measure.
NaN Other water level reference If you chose "other" in the water level reference tab, please specify here.

Dating

Absolute dating Age Age obtained by means of absolute dating methods.
Age SD Standard deviation of age.
Dating method*
Select form a dropdown list the dating method. If not applicable, select 'Not Available'
Other dating method If you chose "other" in the "dating method" tab, please specify here.
Dated material Please specify the dated material. If possible, incude genus or species name.
Not Available Notes on dating methods Insert here details on dating, possible errors or constrains, as well as reference of lab
Relative dating Inferred age Insert the age of sample, inferred from chronostratigraphic considerations or comparison with other dated nearby sites
Inferred age SD  Standard deviation of  inferred age.
Marine Isotope Stage Specify here if the marker has been associated to a MIS.
Attribution method If an absolute dating is not available, here you can specify how a relative dating has been attributed to the marker (i.e. chronostratigraphy, cross-correlation)
Notes Please state the main limitations of the relative dating technique and uncertainties associated

Tectonic rates

Tectonics Tectonic rate* Insert the uplift or downlift rate calculated for the locality. Downlift values should have negative sign
Tectonic rate SD* SD for the tectonic rate
Tectonic rate calculation independent from sl data in this record?*
Indicate if the tectonic rate is independent from RSL data in this record. If the uplift rate has been obtained comparing the marker elevation with eustatic values, the answer will be "No". In the case that another record near the location has been used for tectonic rate calculation, or if the tectonic rates have been obtained by different data (e.g. structural models) then the answer is "Yes"
No Notes Notes on the tectonic rate calculation

Calculations

Paleo Sea Level Paleo SL uncorrected The value indicated in this cell represents the elevation of the paleo sea level uncorrected for tectonics, isostasy and eustasy. The formula used to calculate it is the following:
(Marker elevation corrected to MTL for the locality) - (Position of paleoSL marker in relation to paleotide level)
Paleo SL uncorrected
2 sigma
This cell is automatically calculated using the formula:
((Uncertainty in indicating SL)2 + (Estimated measurement error)2 + (Tidal range)2) 1/2
The latter parameter is added only if the user has indicated "NaN" in the field "Water level reference at the time of measure"
Estimated tectonic displacement In this cells the estimated tectonic displacement of the shoreline is calculated from the input data using the following formula:(Age) * (Uplift Rate)
If in the cell "Dating Method (Absolute)" the selection is 'Not Available', the relative dating is used.
SD of tectonic displacement In this cell the estimated tectonic displacement SD is calculated using the formula:
(Estimated tectonic  displacement) * ((Tectonic rate SD/Tectonic rate)2 + (Age SD/Age)2) 1/2
If in the cell "Dating Method (Absolute)" the selection is 'Not Available', the relative dating is used.
Elevation of paleo SL corrected for tectonics (=EUSTATIC + ISOSTATIC SIGNAL) Index point In this cell the elevation of paleo sea level corrected for tectonics is calculated with the formula:
(Paleo SL Uncorrected) - (Estimated tectonic displacement)
SD In this cell the SD of the index point is calculated with the formula:
((Paleo SL uncorrected 2 sigma / 2)2 + (SD of tectonic displacement ±)2) 1/2
Data quality Data quality indexes Quality In this cell, a value obtained from the "Quality of marker" field is obtained. The value can range from 1 to 3, being 1 poor quality and 3 good quality
Preservation In this cell, a value obtained from the "Conservation factor" field is obtained. The value can range from 1 to 4, being 1 poor preservation and 4 good preservation
Error margin In this cell is calculated a quality value obtained from error bars in the input data. The calculation assigns the following values:
when 0 < "Error bars ±" * 2 > 1 then "Error margin" = 4 (good)
when 1 < "Error bars ±" * 2 > 2 then "Error margin" = 3
when 2 < "Error bars ±" * 2 > 3 then "Error margin" = 2
when 3 < "Error bars ±" * 2 > 4 then "Error margin" = 1 (bad)
Tectonics In this cell is calculated a quality value obtained from the field "tectonic rate calculation independent from sl data in this record?". If the answer in that field is "No", the cell is assigned the value 1 (poor quality), if the answer is "Yes" the cell is assigned the value 2 (good quality)
Overall score (ranging from 0=low to 1=high) In this cell is calculated an overall score related to the quality of record. The value is given by the weighted mean of from the previous four values. The overall score varies from 0 (bad quality) to 1 (good quality)
